Celebrating 260 years in business, award-winning family business, Gatwards is the oldest family jewellers in the United Kingdom and 28th oldest family business.

When James Gatward first opened his doors for business in Hitchin in 1760 as a watch and clock-maker King George II was still on the throne. Over its long and colourful history, Gatwards has seen many changes.

Today in 2020, Gatwards is in its 8th generation with Charlotte Gatward taking the reins as her Aunt, Anna Gatward and mother Lisa Gatward have taken a back seat.

Originally watch & clock makers, examples of Gatwards work is still evident today. Bradly Gatward, Charlotte’s great grandfather, was the last member of the family to make clocks. When his son, Willson, died at only 59, the business was carried on by his widow Sylvia until his daughters Anna & Lisa took over the reins. With ladies at the helm, the emphasis moved towards jewellery & today, Gatwards is now renowned for fine diamonds & beautiful coloured gemstone jewellery.
